Update #23 - It lives! #
2021-08-24
I figured out why I couldn’t get the motor to spin smoothly - the 3-phase cables were connected backwards. d’oh.
Here it is in all its glory. I’m just spinning it by manually passing in a specific current (manualid). There’s no load on the motor and no regen at this stage, so I need to be careful not to allow it to spin too fast. The only thing that’s putting any drag on the motor is MG1. You can see I have a vice clamped on to the side of the motor. This is holding the ICE input shaft stationary. So MG2 is spinning MG1, but this doesn’t put much drag on the motor.
The next task is to run through the FOC tuning procedure to find the correct value for syncofs. This process aligns the magnetic fields of the rotor and the stator.
Once I have that done though, it will be time to start mounting this thing in the car.
